Purpose of an International Internship

To provide an opportunity for international students and professionals to further their careers and expand their knowledge base by experiencing international locations and their local methodologies.

International Internships are the perfect way to develop and diversify a skill set in a Professional work environment. Whether the intern is looking to acquire insight into a new industry, approaching a career change or wants to gain some on the job training to complement their studies, an internship will positively enhance the CV in an increasingly competitive job market.

The Internship also provides the opportunity to get immersed in the local South African culture and way of life. Have the opportunity to eat the local cuisine, learn our lingo and get involved in a variety of local activities.

Outline of the Internship

Interns will be required to attend an orientation in Cape Town prior to initiation of the Internship.

This includes, but is not limited to, detailed orientation session on safety, South African Culture, tours in and around the city, Q&A session as well as perfect networking opportunities.

Airport transfers will be allocated to specific dates and anything out of these dates should be expected to have a private transfer fee attached.

Please allow enough time prior to the program start dates to go through the screening and interview process. This allows for detailing and ironing out of any hiccups further down the line.

Description of the Hospitality Internship Program

91Loop Boutique Hostel is an upmarket accommodation facility located in the heart of Cape Town City Central. Free high-speed WIFI accessibility and 24hour security.

Conveniently located close to Central Station, walking distance from Long Street nightlife and the MyCiti Bus stops right outside our doorstep for easy travelling and exploring. Transfer can also be arranged at an additional fee.

91Loop has its own travel desk for keeping yourself busy during your time here with us. Don’t feel like a pre-arranged tour…. We have our own activities manager on site who arranges free hikes up Lion’s Head, Signal Hill, visits to exciting new restaurants and more!

The Honeybadger is our in-house bar & restaurant which also holds evening activities such as quiz nights, markets and the venue for Tuning the Vines Wine Expo. You receive 20% off meals while booked into 91Loop.

Room Options are varied, dependent on availability and pricing as these are constantly fluctuating. All rooms are en-suite to ensure privacy and convenience. All bunk beds also come with your own locker which is key card controlled specific to your reservation.

Please note that this is subject to change and is done according to the needs of the hostel. All Interns will be trained, involved and provide assistance in – not limited op – below mentioned activities:

    • Logistics & Forecasting
    • Brainstorming new sales channels and concepts to increase sales revenue & bed nights
    • Brainstorming for better levels of customer service, the “X-Factor” for 91Loop.

Housing and Accommodation for Interns

Interns are provided with accommodation, basic meals when on duty. Regular Internships are booked into a multi bed dormitory with en-suite bathroom. This can be upgraded to a private room dependent on availability at 91Loop.

All beds have secure and code specific accessible lockers for additional security. Clean linen is provided and each bed has interior lighting, charger unit and mini table for books and laptops.


3 main meals are provided during the orientation and then the main meal during the shift while on the program. Off days are for yourself although Breakfast is included in the Bed Rate.


Interns are accommodated on property. During the off days, Interns can do as they please. Uber is freely available and reasonably priced all over Cape Town.

Any tours booked through us generally have transport provided from the hostel as part of the package. Being centrally located a clear majority of attractions are located within walking distance.

Working hours / Schedules

This is depicted according to the needs of the hostel. Shift work is required as per worldwide hospitality standards. Generally, an intern can expect to be on shift roughly 5-6 days depending on the time of year i.e. peak season versus low season in Cape Town.

Each shift is roughly 8-9 hours a day however this could fluctuate according to the department currently scheduled in i.e. events could involve longer hours for setup / set down. Hours are compensated for to provide an average during the week.

Selection Criteria / Requirements

Minimum Age: 20 – 30 years [preference]
Maximum Age: No Age limit but must be physically capable of tasks
Work Experience: Hospitality, Culinary or F&B Experience is required to apply. Must be mature and capable to perform tasks. No Freeloaders to apply as this is a fast paced environment and you are expected to take this internship seriously. References can be requested upon application.
Health and Well Being: Intern must be physically healthy and have no limitations when it comes to the tasks and responsibilities of the chosen program. Doctor’s certificate required if Intern has been hospitalized or treated within the last 12 months or has a pre-existing condition.
Medication: All prescribed or personal medication must have necessary documentation with Intern while on the program. Chronic medication must be bought in their home country prior to arrival in South Africa.
Language: Intern needs to understand and converse in English on at least a basic level.
Insurance: Intern must have travel and medical insurance prior to arriving in South Africa.
Personal Traits: Intern must be reliable, self motivated, flexible and eager to get involved with the daily activities in order to reap the maximum rewards and potential from the program.

Processing of Placements

All applications are screened and assessed for suitability. Should the Intern be successful they will be accepted and prepped for the program. Flights may be issued at this point.

Program Durations
